Café d’A Brasileira do Chiado

Lisbon · Hospitality

Interior design project for the outdoor terrace of A Brasileira do Chiado — one of the most emblematic cafés in Portugal, a touchstone of Lisbon's cultural and intellectual life since the early twentieth century, with an interior as recognisable as the Chiado itself. The brief focused on the street terrace, with a single objective: extend the gravity of the historic interior out to the street, improving comfort and circulation without disturbing the heritage reading of the whole. The intervention reads as continuity, not contrast.

The palette speaks directly to the historic room, carrying its atmosphere outside. Every piece and every colour was chosen so the terrace reads as a natural extension of the café, not as an addition.

Bespoke furniture and planters designed by the studio, in dialogue with the language of the interior. A curated set of decorative pieces chosen to converse with the historic façade — a layer of detail that affirms the heritage approach. Materials selected for outdoor durability, always subordinate to the visual register of what was already there.
